Seahorse and Maury Beakman, in location.
I went back to Seattle a few months ago. I got to see some old friends and, incidentally, I also got to see the sculptures I made them before I moved away.

A 9-year-old boy who built an elaborate cardboard arcade inside his dad’s used auto parts store is about to have the best day of his life.

This is fantastic. My faith in humanity is restored. — Tanya
Okay…This made us teary. A lovely reminder that people can do a lot of good.
THERE’S SOMETHING IN MY EYE. Also, I loved at the end when he said, “Is this real life?”

“Triumphant Goblin Warrior”
Tapier-mache Mask
$40
I sculpted this in Durham back when I made Scarilyn Monroe and Frank Stein, but I only just got around to painting it. I tried some different things with the paint job and I’m very pleased with the result.

These were the costumes Rebecca and I wore on Halloween. The masks are from a series of monster faces I’ve been working on since July. The dress and speed suit were purchased on a street corner in LA for $20 bucks.
“Turtle #1”
This is the first in a line of wall-hanging sculptures I’m working on. I started with a 2-dimensional cutout of a turtle and built it up to about an inch at the thickest point. All my sculptures are made out of masking tape and some combination of cardboard, junk mail, non-recyclable plastics and non-food garbage (like laundry lint) and then covered in acrylic paints.
A few years ago, I made myself a Raptor Bandito costume for Halloween. The gun, holster, bandolier, sombrero and hobby-raptor are all made out of tape and painted with acrylic paints. This was one of the first tapier-mache projects I did, so I hadn’t yet learned to consider the weight of things. That meant that all of it was unbearably heavy, especially the sombrero.
The Raptor Bandito character is from Dr. McNinja, a comic by the wonderful Chris Hastings. Por ejemplo, http://drmcninja.com/archives/comic/3p20/.
Also, I wrote a song about this costume for the third EP in the Year-of-EPs: http://dannysaucedo.bandcamp.com/track/costume-change
